Cooke Street Carnival

This year's Cooke Street Carnival took place last Saturday, and it was a blast per usual. Every year Cooke Street closes off traffic and brings out bands, food vendors, brewery representatives, arts and crafts, and local goods and merchandise for a day of celebration. The weather was beautiful on Saturday -- only about 65 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.

The same group of us girls usually makes an appearance for the event, and this year was no different. Okay, it might have been a little more sentimental, because Lisa was able to come with us. After the year she's had stemming from her rock climbing accident, it's nothing short of a miracle that she was able to enjoy the festivities with everyone else.

The music was fabulous as well. The main attraction, Laura Reed, is my cousin's boyfriend's sister. She's been singing for ages and has her own record deal with a recording company in Nashville. Her voice is stunning, and she certainly knows how to command an audience.

Laura's son, Zion, was managing his mom's merchandise table most of the time (when I wasn't trying to convince him to show me his dance moves).

It goes to say that the beers were flowing all day long..

And the music brought in crowds upon crowds of people.

Lisa and I found some time to take selfies.

And the people-watching was incredible.

Needless to say, this year's carnival was a major success. I only wish I didn't have to wait another year to experience it all over again.

Preparing for the Big Game

Oh goodness. That time is almost upon us. Ole Miss beat Alabama last weekend in what is being called one of the most definitive games in Rebel history. This week, we face Texas A&M at home. And I'm a little nervous. Really nervous.

It starts out with all my coworkers asking how nervous I am. They want to know if I think the team is prepared, if they have the skills to win, if I have money riding on the game.

Am I nervous? Hell, I can barely concentrate on anything else.

On Saturday morning I try (unsuccessfully) to maintain my composure and go through my usual routine.

Waiting for kickoff is the hardest part.

Gotta pour myself a drink and get my game face on.

And so will I.

There will be times of mixed emotions.

But at times I'll get myself way too excited.

I'll need a break at halftime to calm my nerves.

We'll either lose the game..

Or we'll win.

Either way, I'll be proud of my Rebels.

And if all else fails, I'll just remember the time we beat Alabama.

I'd just like to start off by saying that I have never, in my ten years of being an Ole Miss Rebel fan, been more PROUD of my team than I am right now. We went up against the #3 team in the nation, Alabama, who had beat us 25-0 last year, and we came out with one hell of a win.

The pictures tell the story much better than I ever could.

Hotty Toddy, my friends.
